Warren,

I am also enjoying and learning from the 31DBBB. I really enjoyed reading this post because I am in the Information Technology industry myself. Fortunately, I did not have to go through a lot of these scenarios because the college I attend hire me. However, I feel that it would have benefited me to search for a job after college and find one the "hard" way for job interview experience.

Again, I feel your list post was very well written and all of the points were clear. I would truly appreciate it if you could visit my list post at http://www.jma-daily.com/2009/04/5-reasons-linux-will-never-be-better.html and express your opinion in the comments.

Hope to keep in touch and thanks.

Hey Darren! I agree, A+ is not easy to get by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm not surprised your company insists on certification (seeing as MicroAge is a certification center itself) ;) but I've heard so many recruiters and hiring managers say that A+ is "useless" and "over awarded" I felt that I should mention that regardless of the qualification it still, as you said yourself, demonstrates a commitment to achieve a higher level of knowledge.

That's really what I'm about these days is advancing my knowledge beyond just what I'm taught in school. I always remember that commercial for investment services where the guy says "I know what I know, but I don't know what I don't know!" It's important for people just starting out to understand that there's always something more out there for you to be learning about.

Warren,
Nice post and good information. Regarding the A+ certification, my company insists on an A+ certification for entry level service tech positions. From my own personal experience, the A+ is a good measure of the minimum someone knows - yes, a lot of that information can be crammed, for sure, but, like ANY learning and personal/professional development, it still demonstrates a commitment to achieve a higher level. It is not necessary to have an A+ to get on in our service tech area but is required as a condition of employment within the first several weeks.
Thanks for the post.
